LIP LIFT

Lip Lift

Women have a variety of reasons for undergoing breast augmentation. Some of the reasons are to enhance her body contour and enlarge breasts to a more optimal shape and size. Women also have breast augmentation to restore the breast size and shape after loss of breast volume due to post-pregnancy and to balance breast size and correct asymmetry.

Breast augmentation is performed by inserting a breast implant, filled with either saline or silicone, behind the breast tissue or beneath the chest muscles. At Artful Awakenings Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Frank Filiberto will work with you to determine which approach would best fit your needs. The procedure is performed through an inframammary incision (made along the fold of the breast). The location of the implant — as well as its size, shape and type — are chosen based on your anatomy, preferences, and the surgeon’s recommendation.

If you are experiencing breast sagging or are noticing stretch marks (diminished skin tone) on the breasts, reaching your aesthetic goals may require a breast lift procedure to be performed in conjunction with the breast augmentation. The breast lift will bring the nipple and areola upward, and excise loose skin.

Breast Augmentation – Before Your Surgery

There are a variety of implant choices available to patients undergoing breast augmentation. The size, shape, and texture of the implant are chosen to match the patient’s anatomy, needs, and desired cosmetic outcome. The first step is a consultation with Dr. Frank Filiberto in our comfortable private office. You can expect our office staff to be personable, knowledgeable and respectful of your time. Dr. Filiberto will discuss your concerns, review your medical history, perform an examination, and then thoroughly discuss options and alternatives available to you. Dr. Filiberto will also review any medications and/or herbal supplements you may be taking which could cause bleeding during or after surgery. Once you and Dr. Filiberto have agreed on a treatment plan, our staff will work with you to schedule at your convenience. Although this surgery is very safe, we will work with your primary care doctor before your surgery to assure you are healthy enough for the procedures proposed.

Breast Augmentation Recovery Process

You will need to bring your compression garment with you the day of the procedure. You will be sent home the day of the surgery in a compression wrap. You will return to our office the next day, at that time we will remove this bandage and you will only wear your front closure compression garment for the next month. You may shower after the bandage is taken off. You will be asked to avoid driving for twenty-four hours after breast augmentation surgery to allow sedating medications to leave your system. This will necessitate that you have a driver available to return you home after the surgery and your follow up appointment the next day. You should plan to relax, stay home, and use ice compresses on the sides of your breasts during the next week or so after your breast augmentation surgery. In order to avoid postoperative bleeding and/or wound disruption, Dr. Filiberto asks that you avoid strenuous activity for ten days to two weeks. Patients often ask when they can return to work following a breast operation. You should plan to take off at least five days after surgery. Most women take off several days more, depending on how they feel and the degree of physical activity required at work. It does take several months for surgical incisions to fully mature (settle in).

You will return to the office twenty-four hours after surgery for your first post-operative appointment.  Ten days after the surgery you will return again to our office to check on the progress of your healing and have your sutures removed. Under normal circumstances, you will have your two to three more post-operative checkups in the next several months to confirm that all is well and to evaluate the early results of your transformation. Dr. Filiberto will see you more frequently during the healing period should you or he deem it necessary. Surgical wounds mature during the twelve months following breast augmentation, so expect your new look to refine itself over time.
